Roberto Paul

Roberto, born and proudly raised in the island of Mauritius, Roberto has been moving to music as far back as he can remember. The rhythm of ‘Sega’, the Folkloric Mauritian music and dance ‘always sends shivers down my spine’. A combination of African drumming, Clave and its unique addictive beat, has helped to make Roberto the dancer he is today. As a teenager, hip hop, street jazz and funk became the most popular form of dance that he learnt and performed.

His love for salsa dancing started when he studied and worked in UK/London. In 1995, Roberto joined the Afro-Cuban Dance School then went on to learn the Columbian & LA styles. After several years enjoying the London salsa scene, it was in 2002 that Roberto developed a real passion for the Mambo/ On2 NY style salsa.

Roberto has since taught, choreographed, competed performed in various events in Mauritius, UK, and in 3 yrs in Australia; incl Sydney Salsa Congress, Brisbane Latin Dance Congress, Doudoule Salsa Camp and countless events, salsa clubs and parties in and around Brisbane and Gold Coast. Roberto is the 2008 Queensland Champion for the On2/Mambo category.

With his unique blend of style, musicality and body expression, he has always brought a charismatic persona to the dance floor. Now living and dancing at the Gold Coast & Brisbane, Roberto is proud to contribute in the development and promotion the On2/Mambo Salsa style in this vibrant and exciting part of the world.

You can appreciate and learn Roberto’s ‘unique flavour’ of the Mambo/Salsa style, through his social dancing and enthusiastic teaching technique, in different Latin locations.
